Lateral Hires: Becoming a Partner

We encourage and expect you to take ownership in your career and in our firm from day one. You'll benefit from mentoring programs and from our focus on professional development. You'll have an opportunity to build meaningful relationships with clients and work in a team environment in which you can enhance your professional skills. This guidance and support will help you reach the goal of making partner.

We discuss expectations regarding your consideration for partnership with you during the interview process, since it may vary based on your prior work experience. Typically, we address progress toward partnership each year during the annual review process for all associates who are within three years of partnership consideration. We evaluate associates, special counsel and partners by the same ten factors, which include ability as a lawyer, standing in the profession and the community, time and attention given to the practice of law, ability to satisfy and develop clients, non-billable endeavors, teamwork, and development of new areas of expertise.

Partners in your practice group make recommendations to the Management Committee on partnership, and the Management Committee makes a final decision, generally based on the advice of the practice group.
