While our associates receive substantial guidance and mentoring in the course of working on client teams with more senior lawyers, we don't leave mentoring to chance. Rather, we offer a mentoring program that answers the needs of associates at each step of their progress toward partnership. Upon joining the firm, each associate is assigned a partner mentor. Associates in their first two years of practice are also assigned a more senior associate mentor to assist with day-to-day activities of practice at the firm and provide practical advice. The partner mentor focuses on career development and planning. Each partner-associate mentoring pair drafts, reviews and refines an annual written practice development plan for the associate. Associates are expeceted to participate actively in the mentoring process, and to communicate their practice goals and objectives to their mentors. We take mentoring very seriously. Our lawyers record their mentoring time, and their mentoring contributions and evaluations are valued as part of the ten factors the Management Committee employs in reviewing and rewarding a lawyer's contributions to the firm.
