Salo has extensive experience representing both property owners and condemning authorities in all aspects of condemnation proceedings, including related disputes arising out of public projects. He has represented property owners such as Target, ADM, Kohl's, Extended Stay Hotels, Holiday, McDonald's, Burger King, and Engelsma Limited Partnership. Last year, Salo's trial team won a $4 million+ condemnation award for the owner of a suburban shopping center impacted by a Minnesota Department of Transportation highway project.
As part of his eminent domain practice, Salo also counsels energy companies, utilities and other condemning authorities in acquiring property for large infrastructure projects, including rights-of-way for energy corridors. He represents Centerpoint Energy in various condemnation matters, including acquisition of right-of-way for new and existing natural gas pipelines and related facilities. Salo led the Faegre & Benson team representing Centerpoint Energy in the acquisition of property for the Riverside Pipeline Project - a 16.3 mile-long pipeline to supply natural gas to the Xcel Energy Riverside Generating facility near downtown Minneapolis, converting the coal-powered plant to clean natural gas. Salo also played a major role in Faegre & Benson's representation of the Minnesota Airports Commission in the condemnation of commercial properties for the expansion of the Minneapolis - St. Paul Airport, with a total value in excess of $160 million.
